Amapantsula were even more popular in the 90's.
They also played a huge role in influencing most of our kwaaito artists like Arthur Mafokate, Mandoza, M'du and even the popular group known as TKZee which consists of Tokolo Tshabalala, Kabelo Mabalane and Zwai Bala. Amapantsula were now taking over the fashion culture in Soweto and people outside Soweto saw Amapuntsula as thugs and sometimes you wouldn't be allowed in certain areas if you dressed like a Pantsula so the trend had to change and AmaBujwa were introduced.
These guys earned everything they had and they were the working class kind of Pantsula.
Still using the Damara look with a bit of a twist, they made the look look good, they were smart and most popular group of guys that lived in Soweto and because they worked it was easy for them to get girls, they also created they own style of dancing or jive "esiBujwa'' as they would call it in Soweto.
AmaBujwa trended around Soweto and shebeen owners loved it when AmaBujwa showed up in their shebeen cause they knew that people would be entertained by AmaBujwa and it's because these guys loved to dance and entertain crowds and people loved AmaBujwa.

In the 80s AmaDamara played a huge role in influencing our music.
Freddy Gwala one of South Africa's musician produced a track paying tribute to amaDamara.
As the years went by the name amaDamara changed with the years and the fashion style changed as well, during this period the fashionista called themselves amaPuntsula and they did things differently from amaDamara they added colour in their fashion statement and they knew how to dance which made them more popular than amaDamara and these guys were not the working class kind of a guy, these guys were thugs and everybody was scared of them because they caused trouble every where they went.
AmaPantsula wore ALL STARS and chinos with floral shirts or colourful golf t-shirts and they drove expensive cars which were either stolen or borrowed and they had money to flash around to attract girls and girls loved that these guys lived on the edge and could give them anything they wanted.
Girls loved the fact that if you were dating a Pantsula you would go to all the parties that were happening around Soweto and you would get in for free if you were dating a Pantsula and no other guy would approach you or try to talk to you if you were a girl and your boyfriend was a Pantsula.
AmaPantsula had their own language they called it "Tsotsi Taal" which is a mixture of Afrikaans and zulu, sesotho, setswana and other langauges and the whole purpose of this language was so that the Damaras don't hear what the Pantsulas were planning and also so that they are distinguished from amaDamara.
"It was 1970 when a group of guys decided to start a fashion group that would represent who they are and where they come from. These guys were popular in their neighbourhood and they had the money to buy expensive clothes but these guys were a working class group.
They called themselves AmaDamara, AmaDamara become popular for their fashion statement and the everybody wanted to be a Damara  so the guys decided to start a neighbourhood dress up competition and it became a success and it also gave them an opportunity to put their name on the map as the best dressed people in Soweto and so the trend went all over Soweto, but now it was neighbourhood against neighbourhood and it became the most popular competition in Soweto and everybody wanted to show that their neighbourhood is the best neighbourhood when it comes to fashion.
The neighbourhood that won would be crowned the Most Fashionable Kasi and they would be respected around Soweto but other Kasi's would want to take the crown and would set up challenges on the side to try and get the crown from the champions. AmaDamara were respected for their fashion style and they always came up with different style mixing it with their original look to make it look more fashionable. "

The three Wise Men traveled for days before they could reach their destination.
Upon their arrival they were met by the GATE KEEPER.
One of the wise men went to greet the gate keeper.
''Hello Joseph" he said
''Hello Balthazar'' replied Joseph.

The men were now close to the place where the star was.
As they approached an unknown village they met a men who couldn't speak but he told them a melodic story.
He then gave them an instrument that had strings.

" The men where now getting closer to their destination
just after they made their way into the forest, they met rebels,
who had gold but they didn't know it's worth so the Three wise men stole it.

" On their way there, they met a priest
   who gave them a gift."

'' After they had heard the voice, they went on their way and the star they had
seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place
where the light was to be born."
A Creative Director is Born.

As a creative, one has to find their own direction and I have decided to take the direction of story telling using images to show what I'm talking about and the story I'm going to tell is the story of the Three wise men, adding a little twist to the story.
My story will begin something like this.
'' GO and make a careful search for the light and as soon as you find it, report to me, so that I too can see the light".

Design thinking

Shimano Coasting, design-thinking applied to the cycling industry.
More than just a BIKE.
During the first phase of the design-thinking process WE realize that it would be smarter to target a larger audience than the tech-freaks who would by an expensive commuting bike.
The reasons are simple : they discovered that a lot of Americans are “intimidated by cycling“, the reasons being various (roads, technology, culture etc.). Long story short, Shimano decided to tackle this problem by proposing “a whole new category of bicycling [that] might be able to reconnect American consumers to their experiences […] while also dealing with the root causes of their feelings of intimidation“. The concept Coasting was born.

After looking at the Shimano Design thinking concept, i dug deep to find out where does this machine called a bicycle come from and I found thAT, it's been around for years and it's ORIGINAL name is VELOCIPEDE, it was coined a BICYCLE in France in 1860.

HOW DO I USE THIS MACHINE IN A CREATIVE WAY?
In my creative thinking I thought of adding the bike in photoshoots as a prop for models but not changing the design of the BIKE nor the purpose of the bike.
I took the concept of EXPLORING YOUR WORLD like AN ARTIST combined it with SHIMANOS THINKING  and I came up with CYCLOTOURING.
Using bikes to explore our WORLD not just for cycling.

On our first project for Creative Development we looked at people that inspire us.
The person that inspires me is Bongani Mnguni.
I will first introduce you to him and share with you what he has done and how i mixed his work and mine creatively. The concept of this Blog is to share pictures that have the same feel and look, but shot in different times of history. I will share with you some of my creative thinking and designs on this blog as well but our main focus will be Mr Mnguni's photographic work of the old South Africa mixed with my vision of the new South Africa.
Through the eyes of a visionary i see Black Images will be main point of the blog, letting pictures do the talking.
First let me introduce my Master.
Bongani Mnguni.
